A GROUP of young people on the Rame Peninsula have mounted their own EU Remain campaign.
The Young Adults on the Rame Peninsula (YARP) group wants everyone to vote in the referendum on June 23.
They are so concerned about this that they are hosting a registration and information evening - with free pizza - in Millbrook next week.
The event will be the chance to register online to vote, arrange postal votes if necessary, and get information on the subject of Britain’s membership of the European Union.
Group spokesperson Joe Turner said: ’The EU isn’t great - we know that - but it offers so much more than the UK could get alone. We need to stay in and use British creativity and resolve to improve it, for the benefit of all.’
The Millbrook-based group is made up of young adults aged 17-26, and most have had advantages as a direct result of being part of the EU, said Joe.
’Most of us have benefited personally from better education, work and travel opportunities thanks to the EU. Above all, we have benefited from the minimum wage, holiday pay rules and sick pay, which are so important to a basic standard of living. We need to stay.’
YARP is a group of 14 young residents from Millbrook and Rame which has been working together for some time, creating mini-businesses, setting up youth housing and trying to improve the situation for their age group.
All are welcome to the EU vote registration evening, which will take place on Wednesday, June 1 from 5.30 - 8.30pm at the Rame Centre in Millbrook.
