Pensilva Summer Skittles league- Memorable incidents as League reaches the halfway point
At the half-way stage at the Millennium Centre with all ten teams having played nine games, this ninth week provided some mentionable incidents in the way of Lynda Jeffery, a prominent player in the Bodmin Landers team, knocking over 86 pins with her 24 ball. This helped produce the highest total pinfall of 295 pins and six more points to consolidate their top position. Their opponents, Hillsecs, were unable to match the performance - finding points hard to come by lately and sinking to eight spot.
Gremlins star Andy Hassam failed to equal the Men's Highest Score so far this season by just one pin, with his score of 88 enabling the team to snatch two first half points in their game against the top-placed challengers Tigers, who went on to secure the remaining four points and feel satisfied with their progress in the first nine games.
The Golden Girls looked like collecting more points for the third week running as they trailed Galaxy Four by just one pin at the half-way point. The second half showed both teams dropping their score rate, but Galaxy fared the better with a further eight pins to secure all six points to stay in fifth place in the table. Worth a mention in this game was the girl's captain Tricia Kirby who recorded her highest score at 67 pins, which included a 'flopper'.
Lower Middle Hill was represented by the Potholers and the Middlers, where on alley number one, the Middlers held an eight pins first half advantage and two useful points, but things were reversed in the second half and with Nick Gilbert's 15 pin spare took the remaining four points with a six pin overall advantage which keeps those Potholers in equal third spot.
A close game sums up the encounter between the Quarriers and the Rascals with the former 11 pins to the good after four legs of skittling. The Rascals improved after a sandwich to rescue two points and ended up just eight pins in arrears to slow the Quarriers' rise from the danger zone to sixth place.
So the fixture list starts again for the second half of the season, where some good awards are waiting for the champions and runners-up and the best scorers.
