A DAD and daughter team are once again bringing the wonders of the ocean to our screens.
Antony and Ella Butler interview experts from the worlds of marine science and technology, conservation and sport to create The Ocean Show 2 - a fast-paced and entertaining film that is also highly educational.
The pair also get stuck in themselves, donning their caps and wetsuits for some wild swimming, having a go at experiments and making ocean-inspired music.
Antony says he and Ella weren’t expecting to be back on film so soon: their first film, The Ocean Show, was released in May. Antony envisaged the project during the lockdown as a virtual replacement for the popular Ocean Day that he runs each year in Downderry and Seaton.
After the first Ocean Show had thousands of views, professional cinematographer Antony applied for funding to create a brand new episode, this time with even more emphasis on inspiring and educating young viewers.
He’s been backed by Adobe’s Creative Community Fund which provided cash as well as technical support.
Episode 2 is once again presented by Anthony and Ella from the greenscreen in their conservatory at home and is packed with segments filmed on location in, under, and near the water.
Guests include award-winning underwater photographer Matty Smith, Plymouth University coastal processes professor Dr Mark Davidson, Rockpooling expert and author Heather Buttivant, Jenny Griffiths from the Marine Conservation Society, local open water swimmers Kate Queally and Rachael Roberts, rip tide expert and coastal scientist Dr Antony Thorpe, musician Wille Edwards, and Ocean Infinity, a global company at the forefront of ocean surveying and exploration.
“The film’s broad range of subjects all based around the ocean theme make The Ocean Show Episode 2 a great resource for teachers, homeschoolers and educators,” says Antony.
