LOOE'S supermarket issue came before Caradon planners to consider an outline application from Nuthurst Properties Ltd to develop an A1 retail food store on the Millpool car park, West Looe.

After much debate, and consideration of a letter from Looe town council, who expressed 'their adamant objection' to the plan, councillors voted to hold a site meeting.

It will take place on the Millpool, next to the Discovery Centre, tomorrow at 10am.

The application proposes a 15,600 sq ft food store with 84 car parking spaces and an additional 30 spaces in an overflow car park on the former gasholder site.

Mr Les Young , the only town councillor who is in favour of the Millpool site, says he hopes as many townspeople as possible, who want a supermarket, will attend the meeting to let their views be known. 'This may be the only chance Looe gets' he said, 'and we must fight for it'.

Mayor Ron Overd, said he was totally in favour of a supermarket for Looe, but not on the Millpool.' I would prefer such a development to be on the fields opposite St Martin's Church and to include some local housing needs and a youth centre' he said.
