LOOE is stepping up efforts to keep its town centre safe this summer as extra security patrols return for the busy school holiday season.

Looe Town Council and the Looe Business Forum have joined forces to fund a dedicated town centre security scheme, aimed at tackling anti-social behaviour, reducing shoplifting and providing reassurance to residents, businesses and the thousands of visitors expected over the coming weeks.

The initiative is jointly funded by Looe Town Council and 40 member businesses of the Looe Business Forum – with Phoenix Security South West Ltd providing two officers who will patrol the town throughout the summer holidays.

The additional security presence is designed to offer support to local retailers, respond to incidents when needed and help maintain the friendly atmosphere that has made Looe one of Cornwall's most popular seaside destinations.

Mayor of Looe, Cllr Stephen Remington, said the partnership demonstrates a shared commitment to protecting the town while welcoming visitors.

“Looe Town Council and Looe Business Forum will be working together once again over the summer to protect and promote our community as a great place in which to live, work, visit and invest,” he said.

“We are pleased to support this collaborative initiative, which helps provide an additional reassuring presence in the town during the busy holiday period. Working together in this way benefits residents, businesses and visitors alike, while helping to maintain the welcoming atmosphere that Looe is known for.”

The security scheme has become an annual feature during the peak holiday season and is funded equally through contributions from local businesses and the town council.

Peter Friend, chair of the Looe Business Forum, welcomed the council’s continued backing for the initiative.

“Looe Business Forum is appreciative of the support from Looe Town Council for their match-funding of the Town Centre Security Scheme once again this year,” he said. “This is a co-funded project, made possible with the financial support of 40 local businesses, then matched by Looe Town Council.

“We’re delighted to be working with the team from Phoenix Security. Two members of their team will be present throughout the summer school holidays. Their team will help provide a safe and enjoyable town centre for both locals and visitors, while supporting our member businesses to drive down instances of shoplifting and anti-social behaviour.”

Phoenix Security South West Ltd Managing Director, Charley Tasker, added: “We’re pleased to be back supporting the Looe community once again. Our team has already built a strong rapport with local shop owners, and they know we're here to provide support whenever it’s needed. We're proud to play our part in helping keep Looe a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable place for both residents and visitors.”

The partnership between the town council, business community and security provider reflects a united effort to ensure Looe remains a safe, vibrant and welcoming destination throughout one of the busiest periods of the year, giving visitors confidence to enjoy everything the town has to offer while helping businesses thrive during the crucial summer trading season.
