LARGE crowds gathered to witness thousands of rubber ducks make their way down Looe river for charity at the weekend.

This year’s Looe Duck Race, which delivered another fun-filled afternoon for locals and visitors alike, took place on Saturday, August 29.

Organised annually by Looe Lions, the race sees thousands of plastic ducks racing down the river, helping to raise vital funds for community causes.

Around 6,000 plastic ducks were tipped over the Looe Bridge and floated down the river from the bridge to the Lower Ferry Steps.

First duck home was 1808, with the winners collecting £1,000 in prize money. The second-placed finisher will receive £200, with third collecting £100 and fourth £50.

With prizes up for grabs and plenty of family fun to be had, the event has cemented itself as a highlight on Looe’s summer calendar.

A Looe Lions spokesperson said: “Another fantastic day in Looe with all the ducks swimming along the river.

“The Lions Club of Looe would like to thank everyone who came out to support us and everyone who bought tickets for The Duck Race this year.

“We would also like to send a massive thank you to all the Lions and volunteers who gave up their free time to throw ducks off a bridge, chase them down the river and to round them all back up and get them back into training for next year’s race.

“Without everyone’s help we could not put on these events, so once again thank you.”
