DIVISION FOUR

Pensilva Res 3

Boscastle Res 0

BRENDAN Houghton netted a wonder strike as Pensilva claimed their fourth successive League win by sweeping aside

visiors Boscastle.

The hosts' confidence shone through from the off, and they were two goals to the good within the first half-hour.

Houghton put his team in front in style when he spotted the goalkeeper off his line and lobbed him from 50 yards in the 15th-minute.

And the Pens doubled their advantage when Tony Rogers played in Jack Podmore, who made no mistake – hitting the ball across the 'keeper and into the bottom corner.

But it wasn't all good news for the home side in the first period, as they lost defender Paul Kent to a knee injury, but Houghton – who started the game in midfield – filled in to good effect.

The weather was atrocious after the interval and seemed to benefit Boscastle, who had the strong wind and heavy rain behind them, and they had a couple of decent opportunities to get back into the game. But the visitors were denied when Dave Hicks cleared a shot off the line and Martin Putt then made a fantastic save to deny a Boscastle striker.

But Pensilva soaked up the pressure and sealed the victory with a third goal late on; Josh Johnson broke away down the left flank and hit a low cross for Brendan McCarthy to tuck away. Pensilva are home to St Austell tomorrow, and players should meet at the Millennium Centre at 1.30 pm for a match sponsored by Interior Concepts Ltd.
