AFTER a lengthy period of inactivity the sun shone for the Daily Mail foursomes qualifier - a foursomes medal competition with the winners going on to knock-out stages - leading to a national final.

Steve Drake and Carl Channon headed strong field with a score of 67.5 (last year Steve's wife Penny went all the way to the National Ladies finals - so Steve is hoping to balance the books!)

Only a half point behind were Keith Warren and Dave Bennett on 68. Captain Wayne Voden and partner Phil Green just got third spot on countback from John Todd and Stuart Hamon (incidentally Phil's wife Min - was Penny's partner in the ladies event last year!)

There was however, some consolation for John and Stuart - having had the only "two" in the two's competition.

Result - winner S Drake and C Channon with 67.5; second, K Warren and D Bennett 68; third, W Voden and P Green 69 (B9), J Todd and S Hamon (69).
