The gardens of an historic house near Liskeard are the first of 12 opening this year in aid of the Cornwall Wildlife Trust. The highlights of the gardens at Coldrenick House in Menheniot are likely to be the bluebell woodland, the magnolias and other spring flowering delights. The gardens will be open to the public on Sunday, May 8, from 2pm to 5pm. The entrance charge for adults is £4 with under-16s free. There is good disabled access and dogs are welcomed on leads. Gardeners from Coldrenick House will be giving guided tours on the estate which has a long history. Chris Betty, from the wildlife trust, said: ‘This estate has such an interesting history and the gardens are stunning. This is a rare treat for gardeners and the fact that there will be guided tours makes it even more special. ‘It is a brilliant start to our 2016 open gardens event which we hope will raise a record-breaking amount towards the trust’s ongoing work protecting Cornwall’s wildlife and wild places.’ Among the other gardens opening are Lethytep at Penadlake, near Lanreath, on June 26, and Higher Trenedden at Peakswater, near Pelynt, on July 24. This is the sixth year the trust has run its open gardens fundraising scheme.
