Tributes have been paid to a former mayor of Liskeard who died on Tuesday. Michael John Andrew, who served as mayor between 1988 and 1989, died at the age of 64 at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth. He leaves a wife, Sylvia, and three children, Simon, Matthew and Martin.
The grandfather-of-five had been suffering from ill health for some time, but was able to attend a meal arranged by the town council on December 18.
Mr Andrew was described as a good friend by Liskeard mayor Tony Powell, who said: 'He was a life-long Conservative.
'He was absolutely committed to Liskeard and was a very kind man and always a gentleman.'
The funeral service is to be held at St Martins Parish Church, Liskeard, on Thursday, January 7, at 3.30pm and will be followed by a cremation to be attended by family members. The family has requested family flowers only, but donations can be made to St Martins Playgroup.
