YOUNG bookworms and their families enjoyed a celebration of stories, imagination and reading as Brunel Primary and Nursery Academy hosted a special reading party.
The school opened its doors to parents and carers for an afternoon of shared storytelling, fun games and activities, with one clear aim: to get children excited about books.
Organised by teacher Joanne Pentreath and Brunel’s dedicated reading pioneers, the event brought families together to celebrate the pleasures of reading and show how books can be enjoyed both inside and outside the classroom.
Children had the chance to share stories with their loved ones and get stuck into a range of reading-themed activities, creating a relaxed and lively atmosphere centred on a shared love of books.
The event also underlined the importance of family involvement in helping children become confident readers, with positive experiences at home playing a vital role in developing skills and enthusiasm.
Headteacher Darren Woolner said: “We want every child at Brunel to discover the excitement, imagination and opportunities that can be found within the pages of a book. Events like our Reading Party help children to see reading as something to enjoy and share with others.
“We are incredibly grateful to Miss Pentreath and our reading pioneers for putting together such a fantastic event, and to all of our families who came along and supported us. Seeing children and adults enjoying stories and activities together was a brilliant celebration of our reading community.”
Reading is at the heart of Brunel Primary and Nursery Academy’s curriculum, with the school committed to giving pupils the foundations they need to succeed across their education and beyond.
The Reading Party offered a chance to celebrate those ambitions while bringing the school community closer together.
Brunel hopes the event will leave pupils eager to turn the next page, discover new favourite stories and keep reading long after the celebrations have finished.
