Fag breaks are costing the Cornish economy more than £30m a year, writes Richard Whitehouse, local democracy reporter.
The figure has been revealed in a report which shows that smoking is costing Cornwall £121.3m and kills almost 1,000 people in the county every year.
It comes as Cornwall Council prepares to sign up to a new Local Government Declaration on Tobacco Control.
A report on the plans to sign up to the declaration is set to go before the council’s health and wellbeing board today.
