A NUMBER of festive events will be taking place in Fowey in the coming weeks despite the sudden cancellation of the town’s popular Christmas market.

Last month, the organisers of the Fowey Christmas Market confirmed that this year’s celebration would not be taking place after the event had become financially and operationally unviable.

Despite a lot of time and money being put into the 2026 event, significant costs and other factors forced the organisers to cancel the event, much to the disappointment of the local community.

However, Festive Fowey, who promote Christmas activities in Fowey, have recently announced that festive markets will be held in the harbour town but in a different format.

Instead of having a standalone Christmas market that takes place over one weekend, there will now be a number of markets and craft fairs being held from Thursday, November 26 to Thursday, November 17.

The majority of the markets will take place at Fowey Town Hall, while other scheduled events will also be held in Fowey Church, Fowey Hall Hotel, North Street Kitchen and Squire’s Field Community.

A post on Festive Fowey’s Facebook page read: "Fowey is becoming a town-wide Christmas market…

"Why squeeze Christmas shopping into one weekend? This year, markets and craft fairs take place on 14 different days between November 26 and December 17, alongside four late-night shopping evenings and Fowey’s brilliant independent shops.

"Meet the makers, discover gifts with a story and enjoy browsing at a gentler pace. Stop for coffee, linger over lunch, then wander through the shops before dinner and drinks in town. Shop small, support local and enjoy Christmas celebrations, the Fowey way."
