Liskeard and Looe Radio: A busy summer of events

This years week of events culminated in the carnival parade setting off from Hannafore Point through the town along to the beachfront at Looe for the presentation finale with many locals taking part with their creative costumes and with the ever-present St Pinnock Band playing as they marched through the streets.

The Liskeard and Looe Radio Roadshow was invited to provide music, PA and commentary on the beachfront in the warm sunshine.

This year, however, we were asked to face out onto the beach where the procession would congregate. This turned out to be a masterstroke as the beach was transformed not just into a presentation stage but also a huge dancefloor.

Parade winners were the Bond Dance Company with the Looe Sea Swimmers team, which included Liskeard and Looe Radio presenters Jim 'The Prof' Averill and Steve Podger, as first runners-up.

It was a fabulous event with a lot of effort made by both those taking part and the hard work by the organisers and volunteers.

Nominations have now closed for the second Annual Gala Awards Night due to take place at The Public Hall on 10th October and we are readying ourselves for the next phase.

This week the the Liskeard Traders Association will be preparing the online voting system and distributing a number of 'Vote Now' posters, and social media links, to nominees ahead of the vote opening on Saturday 15th August.

Voting closes on September 28.

As a regular feature of Looe Carnival Sheila's School of Dance once again performed at the Duloe Jubilee Centre with three successive shows of this enchanting tale from Tuesday through 'til Thursday evenings.

Liskeard and Looe Radio were invited along as special guests to see Sheila's dancers, aged from just 4 to teenage years, perform many well-choreographed, and beautifully costumed, routines with Zora, as the title promised, ultimately saving the sun.

Congratulations to Sheila, her dancers and her formidable team of volunteers who cheered appreciative audiences with this wonderful show.

The second Liskeard Traders Association Network Meeting was held at the combined premises of Home, Health and Happiness and The Community Treasure Chest in Barss Place on Saturday, August 8.

The event was hosted and organised by business owner sisters Val, Emily and Paula together with local trader Josh Taylor of Taylors Electrical SW.

It was a well-attended event with local business leaders and guests able to both network and also sample a variety of food dishes provided by local caterers in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere with background music provided by Liskeard and Looe Radio.

The next meeting, scheduled for late autumn, will be advertised with an invite for business leaders both in the Liskeard area, and beyond, invited to join us.
