Looe v Veryan

Looe won the toss and took the new ball, Simon Farley and Mike Pengelly bowling economical opening bursts but after two relatively cheap wickets, Morley Johns and Roberts Jobson put together a 54 run partnership. The introduction of Robin Trethowan closed up one end as he took the heart out of the home side's batting. Johns held the innings together with a battling 43. Jobson added 25 and Goodman and Terry Moss added some rapid runs late on to enable the home side to muster 150. Trethowan finished with the superb figures of 15-8-27-5, and Mike Pengelly 2-47.

In reply, Looe were given a sound start by the Nance brothers Peter and Jonathan who put on 40 before Jonathan was dismissed. After another quick wicket, Robin Trethowan joined Peter Nance in a 72 run partnership, Trethowan completed a great all-round day by hitting four sixes and three fours in his 45. Nance carried his bat for a fine 66 not out, and with Tim Shepley nearly taking his side to victory, Morley Johns and Andrew Tregunna both bowled useful spells, taking 2-43 and 1-33 respectively.
