TWO men have appeared in court after being charged in connection to an alleged ‘knife attack’ in Truro city centre.

Sinjar Zurel, 27, and Seyin Zurel, 24, both of the Malpas area, went before Truro Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent following a report of a violent disturbance involving numerous individuals in Calenick Street on Monday, August 24, at 1.45pm.

Sinjar Zurel has also been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place.

The pair were remanded in custody ahead of their next hearing at Truro Crown Court on September 29, which will be for plea and trial preparation.

It follows police cordoning off Calenick Street in Truro, and several ambulances and police cars attended the scene after a ‘large fight’ erupted.

Following a rapid response, police issued an appeal for information as a number of videos had been seen circulating online of the events.

The police later added: “We would like to remind the public that legal proceedings are active and any sharing of footage online risks jeopardising an ongoing investigation.”
