SEX OFFENCES
LIAM HARBIDGE, 31, of Landreath Place, St Blazey pleaded guilty to making indecent images of children at St Blazey in 2024 including 28 of the most serious Category A images – ten of which were moving, 18 Category B images and six Category C images. He was given a 40-week prison sentence suspended for 24 months and made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention order restricting his use of the internet and he has to pay a £187 surcharge and £135 costs.
GARY MORTON, 34, of Kingston Cottages, Stoke Climsland pleaded not guilty at Truro Crown Court to raping and sexually assaulting a woman at Callington between 2018 and 2023. His trial was fixed for 12 October and he was released on conditional bail not to contact the complainant.
JAMES AMERY, 35, of Hawks Tor Drive, Lewannick was found guilty at Truro Crown Court of raping a woman at Launceston in March 2022 and sexually assaulting a woman between November 2021 and March 2022. He was sent to prison for nine years and warned he may be subject to barring from working with children and/or vulnerable adults.
ROBBERY
JAY CUNNINGHAM, 26, of Freshstart, Truro Road, St Austell pleaded not guilty at Truro Crown Court to robbing a woman of £200 cash at St Austell on 20 November. He was remanded in custody and his case adjourned until 10 April.
LIAM MEZALS, 33, of Alverton Terrace, Truro has been sent to Truro Crown Court charged with robbing a man of his mobile phone at Park House, Bridge Road, St Austell on 15 November. His case was listed for 24 April and he was released on conditional bail not to contact three men.
RYAN WILLIAMS, 21, of Tremodrett Road, Roche pleaded not guilty at Truro Crown Court to robbing a woman of £200 cash at St Austell on 20 November. He was remanded in custody and his case adjourned until 10 April.
ASSAULT
THOMAS MOFFAT, 35, of Pargolla Road, Newquay pleaded guilty at Truro Crown Court to assaulting two police officers and using threatening behaviour at Newquay on 20 July and obstructing two officers in the execution of their duty, damaging a police van and using threatening behaviour on 21 July. He was given a 12-month custodial period with two months to be spent in prison and ordered to pay a £154 surcharge.
KATIEMARIE PHELPS, 35, of Nor Manor Road, Higher Trencreek, Newquay changed her plea to guilty on a charge of driving at Nor Manor Flats, Higher Trencreek with 50 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath exceeding the limit of 35 and driving without insurance on August 25. She had already pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer at Camborne the same day. She will be sentenced on 30 June.
BARRY RICHARDS, 39, of My Lords Road, Fraddon was found not guilty at Truro Crown Court when the prosecution offered no evidence on charges of assaulting and suffocating a woman at Fraddon in October 2025 and engaging in coercive behaviour.
SAMUEL JONES, 35, of Grove Road, St Austell pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman at Cambridge on 14 November. He will be sentenced on 30 June and was released on conditional bail not to contact his victim or go to a road in Cambridge.
ERIC CLEMENTS, 59, of Croydon pleaded guilty at Truro Crown Cout to assaulting a woman at Trenance Place, St Austell occasioning her actual bodily harm on 17 August. He will be sentenced on 17 April and he was released on conditional bail not to enter Cornwall except to attend court or for a pre-arranged appointment with his solicitor and he was put on an 8pm to 8am daily curfew to remain at his address in Croydon. He pleaded not guilty to engaging in coercive behaviour in St Austell between 2023 and 2025 – the prosecution offered no evidence and this was dismissed.
MICHAEL BOOTH, 52, of West Street, Liskeard has been sent to Truro Crown Court charged with aggravated burglary at a property in Centenary Street, Camborne in October 2024 when he is alleged to have had a weapon, a wooden chair spindle, and inflicted grievous bodily harm on a man. His case was listed for 24 April. He was released on conditional bail not to contact a man or a woman or enter a property on Centenary Street, Camborne.
ELLA TERRELL, 23, of Old School Road, Plymouth pleaded not guilty at Truro Crown Court to assaulting a woman at Pelynt occasioning her actual bodily harm on 29 March last year. Her trial was fixed for 30 September and she was released on conditional bail to live and sleep at her address in Old School Road, Plymouth.
COERCIVE BEHAVIOUR
JAKE BRADY, 26, of Quintrell Road, Newquay was found not guilty at Truro Crown Court of engaging in coercive behaviour between June 2024 and October 2025 and not guilty to strangling a woman on 4 July and between 20 September and 6 October.
BURGLARY
ANDRE SANDERS, 31, of NFA, Truro pleaded guilty at Truro Crown Court to burgling a property in Trelawney Road, Newquay in August 2024 and stealing a television, nail tower, a bin, an Armani watch, perfume and Playstation. He was sent to prison for 16 months.
THEFT
KIRSTY PEARCE, 44, of Minorca Lane, Bugle had a warrant issued for her arrest when she failed to turn up to Truro Crown Court to answer charges of stealing alcohol and phone cables from Morrisons filling station in Penzance.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
LIAM SCRIVENER, 30, of NFA, St Austell has been ordered to pay police £200 compensation after he pleaded guilty to damaging the window on a police van at Truro on 22 March.
DROVE WITHOUT CARE
DAVID RYAN, 81, of Pras Gwartha, Duloe was found guilty of driving on Beatrice Avenue, Saltash without due care and attention in December 2024. He was given a points disqualification of six months, fined £270 and ordered to pay £620 costs and a £108 surcharge.
DRINK/DRUG DRIVE
RUBY DYLAN, 22, of Chenies Cottage, Summercourt pleaded guilty to driving at Truro Railway Station on 26 February with 72 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath exceeding the limit of 35. She was banned from driving for 18 months which will be reduced by 18 weeks if she completes a course, fined £400 and ordered to pay a £160 surcharge and £85 costs.
NO INSURANCE
LAURENCE BEDINGHAM, 40, of Margate, Cardinham Woods has been banned from driving for six months on a points disqualification and fined £594 after he changed his plea to guilty on a charge of driving without insurance in St Austell in February 2025. He has to pay a £238 surcharge and £135 costs.
ANIMAL WELFARE
DAVID ETCHELLS, 24, of Dymond Court, Bodmin has been ordered to do 120 hours unpaid work after he pleaded guilty to failing to meet the needs of a Bull Terrier cross called Roxy by a combination of its need for a suitable diet, to be able to exhibit normal behaviour patterns and to be protected from pain, suffering, injury or disease as required by the Animal Welfare Act. He was disqualified from keeping all animals, except fish, for eight years. He had to pay £400 costs and a £114 surcharge.
DANGEROUS DOG
CAROLINE TAYLOR, 67, of The Uplands, Lostwithiel has been told that her XL Bully type dog called Frankie will be destroyed unless an exemption is made within two months. To get the exemption the dog must be neutered, have third-party insurance and be muzzled when out in a public place when it must be kept on a lead in the charge of a person aged over 16.
