Students will pull

bus for charity

STUDENTS at Torpoint School will be remembering a fellow pupil who has died from cancer at the age of 11 when they take part in a charity event next week.

The youngest pupils at the school will be aiming to pull a 15.5-tonne double-decker bus along the school drive.

The children aged 11 and 12 will be raising money for CLIC (Cancer and Leukaemia in Childhood Trust) and for a memorial to Richard Haydon who lived in Torpoint.

The bus pull to aid the charity had been planned for some time but Richard's death in February has added poignancy to the event.

Richard had only been at the school for a short while but he was well-known because he went to both Torpoint Infant School and Carbeile Junior School in the town. His sister Clare is a pupil at the senior school.

Around 170 children will be taking part in the bus pull at lunchtime on Wednesday, March 20. The event will be run as a competition between six teams of around 30 each.
