A MODEL show in Saltash has raised £300 for local charity Ashtree, with military vehicles, sci-fi creations and a model railway among the attractions drawing crowds to the two-day event.
Saltash Model Club welcomed enthusiasts to the Ashtorre Rock Centre on October 10 and 11, showcasing dozens of displays spanning military and civilian models, radio-controlled aircraft and more.
The show was officially opened by former Saltash Mayor and Freeman Sue Hooper MBE, accompanied by her husband John, with members also recognised for their modelling achievements and contributions to the club.
Teenager Lenny Timbrell received a special award for his models depicting the US and Vietnam War, which caught Mrs Hooper’s attention.
He later shared his knowledge with visitors, delivering an informative talk about the history of the conflict.
Club stalwart Mark Lloyd was awarded the annual Dave Lloyd Memorial Trophy, introduced in memory of his father, who died last year.
Members selected Mark in recognition of his outstanding service to the club, particularly his work in media management following his appointment to a committee role.
Colin Burt was named competition winner of the year after achieving the highest points total across the club’s quarterly competitions.
Outside the centre, a German armoured vehicle proved a major attraction, drawing attention from visitors and adding another dimension to the military-themed displays.
Club chairman David Parsons said members enjoyed sharing their passion and knowledge with the public.
“Members are always encouraged to welcome so many people to the events and are always pleased to explain the history and techniques behind the models,” he said. “Young people too, have such a fascination with the models that have working parts.”
The event was sponsored by Ian Timbrell and Darren Spree, while refreshments were provided by Saltash Rotary Club and the Ashtorre Rock Centre.
Established 10 years ago, Saltash Model Club welcomes modellers of all ages, abilities and interests. The group meets at the Ashtorre Rock Centre on the last Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm, with workshops taking place on the other Wednesdays from 6pm.
