Cornwall Council will be handing over Par Running Track to local community group Par Track Limited to manage in April, helping to secure its future.
Par Track Limited consists of local residents, running track users and local Tywardreath and Par Parish Councillor Doug Scrafton and the transfer will include the running track, football pitches and changing facilities.
The transfer is part of Cornwall Council’s devolution programme which is supporting parish and town councils and community groups to take over local ownership, management and control of services.
The agreement with Par Track Limited will be on a 125-year lease and Cornwall Council will continue to own the site.
GLL, which was awarded the tender by Cornwall Council to run other leisure facilities in Cornwall last April, has been running the track for the past year whilst Par Track Limited was developing the business plan.
Doug Scrafton said: “We are all very excited at the prospect of the track and its related facilities coming into local control.
“We have some ambitious ideas for developments that can not only make their future secure, but also provide additional facilities that will offer something to every member of our community.”
Last year Cornwall Council invested £220,000 in resurfacing the running track and updating other items on the site so it was fit for the future before being transferred. The improvements included installing a new hammer and discus with a disabled fixing point.
Plans are also under way to transfer the skate park to Par Track Ltd.
