MEMBERS and helpers of Callington Age Concern lunch club recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of their founding. Bunty Simpson, the driving force in the beginning sadly died only a few months before the celebrations took place, but another founder member, Barbara Otter was able to attend. The club started in quite a small way in 1979 with only seven members and has met every Thursday lunch time for all those years with very few exceptions. Trethorne Manor near Launceston, was the venue for the celebration lunch when 55 members, helpers and guests enjoyed a meal followed by a coach ride over Bodmin moor and tea at Golberdon village hall prepared by South Hill WI. To be able to bring friendship, fun and ease to lonely senior citizens and to provide the high quality home cooked meal, which is always served with a smile, volunteers are always needed. If anyone of any age is able to give some time weekly with cooking, serving or general helping, please contact Marina on 382419.
