Bat detectives are needed in the Tamar Valley to help with the conservation of an endangered species. The Devon Greater Horseshoe Bat Project’s ‘Bat Blitz’ is calling for volunteers to collect scientific data. Up to 40 bat detectors will be placed close to the bat roost in Gunnislake, said advisory officer Anna David. ‘Volunteers will be given recording equipment to put out in specified locations in the surrounding countryside, and be asked to collect the detector one week later,’ she said. ‘The more help the better, so please do come along and help us learn more about these wonderful creatures.’ A free drop-in event will take place on Monday, August 8, from 4pm-7pm at the Tamar Valley Centre, Drakewalls, near Gunnislake. Bat detectors must be returned to the centre on Tuesday, August 16, between 8am and 10am. ‘It would be helpful to let us know if you plan to come along,’ said a project spokesperson. ‘Anyone who would like to take part should contact Devon Wildlife Trust by email to reception@devon wildifetrust.org or by calling 01392 279244.’
