RESIDENTS of the Barbican in East Looe face a long, steep walk to access Post Office services after the abrupt closure of the local branch.

The Barbican Post Office branch has been in the Bargain Booze Select Convenience store on Barbican Road.

A short statement telling customers of the closure was posted online on Monday.

Residents have also gone online to express dismay at the news.

Mayor of Looe Armand Toms said: ‘I am sorry to see this service lost to the largest population area of the community. I will be working to see what can be done.’

A spokesperson for the regional Post Office said: ‘Barbican Post Office has, unfortunately, been temporarily closed for operational reasons.

‘We are working hard to restore Post Office services to the area as soon as possible.’

The nearest Post Office branches are at Quayside Fresh in East Looe, and at No Man’s Land.

The Bargain Booze Select Convenience store remains open on Barbican Road.
