AS THE next steps towards opening a new tin mine in South East Cornwall move ahead, residents are being encouraged to find out more.

Cornwall Resources Limited (CRL) is hoping to breathe new life into the mines which once operated at Redmoor, near Callington.

The company, which carried out a programme of exploratory drilling last year, reported recently that the area could contain twice as much high grade tin and tungsten as had been originally thought.

Now a series of public sessions will be held so that local residents can find out about the results of last year’s drilling, as well as plans to carry out further exploration this summer.

Callington Town Council has given its blessing to the second phase of drilling at Kelly Bray, as has Cornwall Council.

The sessions will be held at Callington Town Hall on the evenings of Thursday May 3 and Friday May 4 and staff from CRL will be on hand to answer questions. The exhibition will be also be open unmanned at the hall on Saturday May 5.
