Both sides were on lengthy unbeaten runs going into the premier encounter. St Dominic had often in the post struggled on the Newmoor's sloping pitch and this seemed to be the way of things right from the off.

Within the opening 15 minutes Newmoor opened up a two goals advantage. The new look St Dominic defence seemed to get caught on both occasions by a long ball over the top. The first was well taken by Ian Morton after he turned Gareth Wenmoth well on the byline. The second was a mix up between Wenmoth and keeper Mike Keene as the ball hit the defender and crept past Keene into the corner.

Despite these early lapses the rest of the half was fairly even, with very few clear chances being created at either end.

In the second half St Dominic started much brighter. With a strong wind at their backs they put Newmoor under pressure from the start. Within the first five minutes Neal Horsley was fouled in the area for a penalty. Horsley stepped up to take the spot kick but produced a weak striker that went wide.

However St Dominic played much better in the second half and had some clear chances. Paul Keene shot wide when well places, and Richard Woods had his well timed free kick pushed onto the bar and away to safety.

This was not to be Saints day and Ian Morten latched onto another bad defensive error to wrap up the three points. St Dominic did not play as well as they have of late, and will need to improve if they are to get anything next week when they play high flying Dobwalls.
