Pensilva were unfortunate to go out of the cup after a narrow defeat by Mevasissey. Looking to avenge their recent 7-2 defeat they started badly on an atrocious playing surface and were soon a goal down. After this early setback Pensilva responded brilliantly and started to apply some pressure of their own and were rewarded when Stuart Timms raced clear and calmly slotted the ball past the advancing keeper. He soon added another when a well worked move left him the easiest of headers to make the score 2-1. Pensilva were firmly in charge at this point before a couple of incidents changed the game just before half time.

Firstly, a fine Chris Evans cross beat everybody and arrived at the far post where Timms was waiting but unfortunately he mis-timed his header and the chance was gone. Soon afterwards, a ball was played through the Pensilva defence and into the path of a Mevagissey forward. The covering sweeper Paul Firth, obviously sensing that he wouldn't make it, launched himself with what can only be described as a late tackle which has no place in the beautiful game. The hapless player fortunately escaped serious injury. The referee pointed straight to the spot but amazingly Firth escaped further punishment. The spot kick was converted and the half time score 2-2.

The second half ebbed and flowed with both sides refusing to back off. The tension mounted as full time approached when a high ball was tossed into the Pensilva area. Keeper Dave Hicks came out to collect and was blatantly fouled, causing him to spill the ball which fell nicely for a Megasissey player to side foot into the empty net and send Pensilva crashing out. The last few minutes were bad tempered as flame haired Colin Swinburne saw red and lashed out at an opponent, and the crowd were treated to an impromptu display of mud wrestling. A Mevagissey player was dismissed just before the final whistle.
