Disappointed festival-goers will get their money fully refunded, say Boardmasters organisers.

The four-day surf and music festival had been set to begin in Newquay today but was cancelled due to the high winds forecast.

A spokesperson for Boardmasters said: ‘We confirm that anyone who purchased tickets via the Boardmasters website and official ticket sellers will receive a refund in full for the face value of their ticket.

‘More information regarding how to claim your refund will be released as soon as possible via Boardmasters social media channels.’

A final decision to pull the plug on the event was made yesterday after consultation with the Met Office, Devon and Cornwall Police and the emergency services.

Around 55,000 people attend the annual festival on the North Coast, and local businesses have expressed concern over the loss to takings, although not every ticket holder will be going home: some, having made the journey, have decided to stay in Newquay in hotels or alternative campsites.
