POLICE are investigating reports a teacher allegedly hit a student at a school in Cornwall.

It has been widely reported the alleged incident happened at Pool Academy on Wednesday, September 30.

A police spokesperson said: “We have been made aware following an alleged incident involving two students and a member of staff at Pool Academy on September 30. The matter was reported to us formally on October 5. Enquiries into the matter are ongoing.”

A spokesperson for Pool Academy said: "While we are unable to comment on an ongoing investigation, we can reassure families that any concerns are taken seriously and that the appropriate procedures are followed promptly and thoroughly.

"Where appropriate, we work closely with external agencies to ensure all relevant safeguarding responsibilities are met.

"The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff at Pool Academy remains our highest priority and remain at the heart of every decision we make."
