DEVON and Cornwall Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault in Liskeard following reports of disorder in the town on Saturday evening (December 18).

An on-duty police officer was talking to members of the public in Barras Street at around 9.30pm when he was assaulted. It has been reported that the officer was approached from behind and assaulted with a bottle to the head before being pushed to the floor, where he was further assaulted.

The East Cornwall-based officer was taken to Derriford Hospital, Plymouth, where he was treated and has since been discharged.

Officers are appealing for anyone who was in the area of Barras Street, Liskeard, between 9pm and 10pm on Saturday, December 18, and may have relevant information, to get in touch. Anyone with CCTV, dashcam footage, or other video footage which may be relevant are also asked to contact police.

Two men, aged 32 and 29, and a 34-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm with intent. They have been released on police bail until mid-January.
