Police in Cornwall will be making the ’Stay at Home’ rule their top priority this weekend as they go on high visibility patrols in the county.
In a tweet earlier this morning Inspector Ian Thompson said he had just chaired the Cornwall management daily meeting:
’Priority of the day is high visibility patrols in the community, engaging, educating and promoting government guidelines, where appropriate issuing fines to reinforce essential travel only.’
Sector Inspector for East Cornwall Rupert Engley has praised the public for heeding the instructions to stay at home after posting a series of photos of sunny, but empty beauty spots at Whitsand Bay, Mout Edgcumbe and Caradon Hill.
Yesterday and last night, Devon and Cornwall police force was reporting that roads into the county were largely empty.
Patrols of the M5, A30, A38 and ’back ways’ into Cornwall would be carried out today and over the weekend.
Cornwall commander, Superintendent Ian Drummond-Smith has warned that officers finding visitors coming into the county will be stopped and face fines.
