A MAN was airlifted to safety after being trapped on a cliff at Perranporth on Thursday (October 8).
Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 387 based at St Athan winched the casualty from an isolated rocky outcrop at Droskyn after they had become stranded at about 2.30pm.
Newquay and St Agnes Coastguard Search and Rescue Teams attended the incident but were unable to reach the casualty. The man was airlifted off the cliff face and flown to a nearby landing site at Perranporth Rugby Club unharmed.
A spokesperson for St Agnes Coastguard said: “We were tasked to reports of a person stranded on an isolated rocky outcrop along the coastline.
“Due to the difficult location and challenging access, our teams were unable to safely reach the casualty, and assistance was requested from Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 387, based at St Athan.
“The helicopter crew successfully winched the casualty to safety before transporting him to Perranporth Rugby Club, where our team had established a helicopter landing site ready for their arrival.
“Thankfully, the casualty was safe and well. A great example of teamwork between Coastguard Rescue Teams and our helicopter colleagues to bring someone safely back to solid ground. Thank you to the club for letting us land. We would like to thank Perranporth Rugby Club for letting us land.”

A spokesperson for Newquay Coastguard added: “We were tasked to assist with an incident at Perranporth Beach. A casualty had become trapped on cliffs, Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 387 from St.Athan was tasked to assist.
“The casualty was airlifted off and taken to a nearby landing site at Perranporth Rugby Club unharmed.”
