THE Tamar Coastguard Rescue Team were asked by police to carry out an investigation on Tregantle Beach, in Whitsand Bay on the Rame Peninsula, yesterday (Saturday) afternoon after a ‘concerning object’ was found.
The Tamar team were tasked at 3.48pm with a request from Devon & Cornwall Police to assist with the investigation after the object in question washed up on the beach.
There was a concern that it might be a piece of ordnance, or possibly a mine. However, on examination, it appeared that it was a mooring anchor for a buoy.
The object was moved to a position of safety and coastguard tape was attached, to avoid any further concerns from the public. The team was stood down at around 5.50pm.
Although in this case the object found turned out to be harmless, the public is advised that in an emergency on the coast, at sea, tidal river or coastal path they should dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
