Police are appealing for witnesses to yesterday’s serious collision near Bodmin which left a lorry driver with serious leg injuries.

The collision involving the HGV on the A30 Bodmin eastbound off slip towards Carminnow happened at around 9am yesterday.

The white DAF truck was in collision with the roadside barrier on the slip road and came to rest impaled on the railway bridge, which forms part of the off-slip.

The driver, a 41-year-old man from Redruth, was initially trapped in the vehicle and sustained serious leg injuries. He was taken to Derriford Hospital by ambulance.

The truck was fully laden with disposable metal pie cases and wire which were shed across the slip road.

The slip road was closed to traffic and was re-opened at 5.15pm when the lorry had been recovered. One lane of the A30 eastbound was also closed.

The Bodmin and Wenford Railway was also affected by the collision after debris fell onto the line.

Officers from the Bodmin Roads Policing Team were at the scene and are appealing for further witnesses to come forward.

Anyone who can assist is asked to contact the team via [email protected] or by telephone on 101, quoting log number 0118 of January 5.
