THE St Ives Bay 10K – the second race of the 2026/27 Cornish Multi-Terrain Race Series - took place earlier this month.

A total of 216 competitors completed the St Ives Bay 10K, which took runners from Hayle along the beach towards Gwithian before heading into the Towans for a mixture of sandy paths and trails.

The return journey features the race's most notorious challenge, the aptly named Dune of Doom, before runners head back onto the beach for the final run towards the finish. Conditions provided a typical Cornish summer evening, with warm temperatures and some cloud cover.

The opening three miles along the beach offered a mixture of firm and softer sand, while organisers and competitors alike kept one eye on the quickly returning tide.

Three runners from Tamar Trotters took on the challenge, with Jacob Landers securing second place overall with a time of 39:43.

Sid Standlick, who finished 33rd overall, claimed fourth place in the Male 45-49 category after crossing the line in 49:19, while Sue Pendleton completed the course in 1:06:25 in the Female 45-49 group.

Carol Norwood of East Cornwall Harriers also took part in the race, finishing with a time of 1:32:35 in the Female 65-69 category.

Ollie Garrod from Belgrave Harriers was the first man home in a time of 38:37. He was shortly followed by second-placed Landers and Tim Zudrop from TRISPEED Marienfield in third (39:43).

First woman was Annie Arnold from City of Plymouth Athletic Club, who ran the course in 43:04. Chloe Clarke of Cornwall AC took second place (45:58), with Jessie Sanzo from Bristol and West AC taking third spot (46:10).

The men's team competition proved particularly close, with Hayle Runners and Truro Running Club both finishing on 49 points. The host club took the victory on the tie-break (as the last team runner finished ahead of Truro’s last team runner), with St Austell Running Club completing the podium in third.

Truro Running Club took first place in the ladies' team competition, ahead of Hayle Runners in second and Truro's second team in third.
