Caradon West planning committee have given the go-ahead for an internet cafe in West Looe, the first of its kind in the town.

The plan was put forward by T Langdon and T Bedden, and is for Unit 6 Pennyland, West Looe Quay, which was last occupied as an antiques shop.

The unit will be open between 10am-6pm for people to access the internet via a series of computer terminals, with adult information technology education classes taking place on some evenings until 9pm.

Web page design and other services are also planned.

One objection was lodged by D G Lewis of West Quay House Tenants Association, who voiced concern about the possible smells from cooking which mighty cause a nuisance to the flats, as would evening use after 6pm.

8lb line reels in a monster

A VISITOR from Switzerland caught a 117lb blue shark off Looe on Wednesday – on an 8lb line.

Keen fisherman John Stalder-Griss, and his wife Margaret, frequently holiday in Cornwall because of the fishing opportunities the county offers. Both specialise in light line fishing.

John, who is staying at Hannafore, was about 15 miles out to sea when he made the catch.

He was in the middle of a ten-day holiday at the time.
