PLANS to extend the Aldi supermarket in Liskeard have been given conditional approval by Cornwall Council, paving the way for changes to the store and its surrounding site.
Planning application PA26/01374, submitted by Aldi Stores Ltd, covers an extension to the existing store at 1 Charter Way, Liskeard, together with a new plant compound, additional car parking and an associated pedestrian crossing.
The application also sought a variation to condition two of an earlier planning permission, PA24/09331, which was approved in November 2025.
Cornwall Council formally granted conditional planning permission on Wednesday, August 12.
The decision means the development can proceed, subject to a series of conditions designed to address matters including construction, ecology, trees, drainage, highways, landscaping, security and the protection of neighbouring properties.
The permission requires work to begin before November 4, 2028, while the development must be carried out in accordance with the approved plans.
A Construction Environment Management Plan must be followed, alongside approved tree protection measures and an arboricultural method statement. The council has also imposed requirements covering the discovery of previously unidentified contamination during construction.
The additional car park must be completed and available for customers and visitors before the development is brought into use. Parking and turning areas must allow vehicles to enter and leave the site in forward gear.
Drainage works must follow the approved drainage strategy, with the aim of preventing increased flood risk and managing surface water.
Security measures will also be required, with a CCTV and vehicle barrier scheme to be approved before the new car park is first used.
A landscaping and lighting scheme must be agreed with Cornwall Council before the development is first occupied or used. The conditions include requirements for planting, protection of existing trees and hedgerows and the replacement of any plants that die or become seriously damaged within five years.
The council has also required the development to follow recommendations in the site's ecological assessment and an approved Biodiversity Net Gain Plan and Habitat Management and Monitoring Plan.
Operating hours have been addressed through planning conditions. Deliveries will not be permitted before 6am or after 10pm from Mondays to Saturdays, while Sunday and Bank Holiday deliveries will be restricted to between 7am and 5pm.
The approved electric vehicle chargers will also be subject to operating hours of 6am to 10pm.
As part of the planning decision, Aldi will also be liable to pay £67,994.65 in Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) to Cornwall Council.
The CIL liability notice, dated August 13, states the charge will be payable to Cornwall Council, acting as the collecting authority, when the development begins. The charge is levied under Cornwall Council's CIL Charging Schedule and Section 211 of the Planning Act 2008.
Louise Wood, Cornwall's Chief Planning Officer, issued the approval, which represents the latest stage in plans to expand and improve the Aldi site in Liskeard, with the conditions intended to ensure the works are carried out with regard to highway safety, environmental protection and the amenities of nearby residents.
