Takeaway proposal 'has merit'

By Cornish Times in Planning

A proposal to create a takeaway outlet in Pelynt ‘would likely have merit’ says Cornwall Council.

The Pelynt Social Club has asked the local authority for advice on its idea to erect a small timber-clad building in the grounds of the club building at The Old School House.

The new building would be used by the owners of the Premier Store, also located within the social club grounds, to prepare and pack cured meats and pastry-based snacks for sale within the shop and offsite.

It would also be used as a takeaway facility to serve the public and members of the social club.

The Premier Store says the new venture could create four or five new jobs – and that the rental income will help to maintain the financial stability of the social club.

In her response to the applicant, planning officer Davina Pritchard said: ‘The proposed development of the site with a suitably designed retail and takeaway premises is likely to have merit.’
