Bell signals arrival of new vicar

By Cornish Times in Local People

A church bell in Liskeard was rung by the new priest-in-charge to signify the start of his ministry in the town.

During a service at St Martin’s Church, the Rev Steve Morgan was sprinkled ‘enthusiastically’ with holy water by the Bishop of St Germans, the Rt Rev Chris Goldsmith.

Around 250 people attended the event to see Mr Morgan installed by the Bishop.

‘It was wonderful to see so many people welcoming Steve to our parishes,’ said Mike Sturgess of St Martin’s Church.

‘His family and friends were there, as were the mayor and other dignitaries from the town, members of the congregation from Liskeard, St Keyne and Dobwalls, and representatives of other churches in the area.

‘Although the installation of a priest is a formal service, full of symbolic acts representing his various roles and duties, the service was also a very joyous one.

‘He was enthusiastically sprinkled with holy water by Bishop Chris – as were any members of the congregation who were within easy range.’
